Dashing Through the Snow: An Introduction to Snowshoeing

A winter activity like no other, that presents you with the feeling of gliding right out your doorstep. Snowshoeing is a perfect, unique, activity that allows you to explore the snowy scenic mountains BC has to offer in the winter period.

Snowshoeing provides you with the ability to gracefully walk upon the depths of the snow, whilst absorbing the winter wonderland setting surrounding you; and explore hidden gems enclosed within BC. No extensive skills are required, making this activity accessible, fun, and achievable for everyone. To take part in this activity some simple equipment is required in which you can buy or rent:

This simple, and minimalistic equipment list makes this activity accessible for everyone. Although you require this equipment, it is important to understand and prepare for the challenging winter temperatures that you have to tackle. In order to be prepared for this ensure to wear: thermal gloves and socks, a toque, snow pants and shoes, and a layer of warm clothes underneath your regular clothes. These precautions need to be taken to ensure hypothermia doesn’t strike you, and also so that you enjoy this activity comfortably while staying warm.

Not only does snowshoeing present you with an opportunity to explore the nature paths of BC but it also allows you to spot and watch some native Canadian animals. One animal specifically to BC in which is understandably popular, yet hard to spot, due to them being based in the depths of the forests of BC is a Moose. These animals hold a beauty, and a superiority, which tends to amaze those who see them. However, this animal specifically can be unpredictable therefore meaning there are precautions to take when seeing one to ensure your safety.

Safety Precautions:

Stay calm and remain with slow movements.
Do not approach any closer than you currently are, move to an extended distance if possible.
Do not present food towards the animal
Do not shout or raise your voice

If you follow these precautions your safety will be protected and you can continue to pursue your snowshoeing activity in bliss and peacefulness, all whilst consuming the nature and beautiful qualities surrounding you with friends.
