What is the Super Bowl?

American Football has been a prominent sport in North American entertainment. Created in 1920, American football, started to take off after the addition of the most prestigious award in football, the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The Vince Lombardi Trophy was added for the winner of the Super Bowl. Getting their team to the Super Bowl is the goal of every: player, coach, team owner, and fan. The winner of the American Football Conference (AFC) faces off against the winner of the National Football Conference (NFC) and the winner of that game is the champion of the national football league (NFL) for that year. 

The name “Super Bowl” came from one of the founders of the NFL and the owner of the Chiefs, Lamar Hunt. He had decided on the championship game the super bowl because his children were playing with a toy called the super ball and he liked the ring; Hunt was open to different ideas to name the super bowl but the media loved the name “Super Bowl” and it stuck.

Super Bowl 57

This years game, the teams competing at Super Bowl 57 (LVII) are the AFC champions Kansas City Chiefs, and the NFC champions Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs are coming into this match-up with 1 Super Bowl and the Eagles with 3. Although the Chiefs might seem like they are at a disadvantage, they made an appearance 3 out of the last 4 Super Bowls. Both teams’ records going into this matchup are 16-3 (including postseason), and it will be a game you do not want to miss.

It’s Time!

Super Bowl 57 is taking place at State Farm Stadium in beautiful Glendale, Arizona home to the Arizona Cardinals where the NFL will crown this year’s Super Bowl Champion. History was made as it will be the 1st time in Super Bowl history that there will be 2 Black starting quarterbacks; Patrick Mahomes II (Chiefs) and Jalen Hurts (Eagles). It is also the 2 Super Bowl where brothers Travis (Chiefs) and Jason Kelce (Eagles) will play each other. In other words, fans are calling this year’s game the “Kelce Bowl”.

Reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes is in the prime of his career with 3 Super Bowl appearances in his 6 years in the league, he is considered the best quarterback in the NFL. With Tight End Travis Kelce and rookie Running Back Isiah Pacheco to throw to. On the other side of the turf, 3rd year Jalen Hurts has brought his Eagles to their 3rd Super Bowl appearance in franchise history. As a runner-up for MVP, Hurts impressed the league with his arm and with his legs with an outstanding Eagles roster backing him up. With the best Offensive Line centered by Jason Kelce protecting Hurts in the pocket, the Eagles’ offense has talent everywhere. Running Back Miles Sanders coming off his best season and superstar Wide Receivers AJ Brown and Devonta Smith catching touchdowns left, right, and center.
