Movies To Watch During Study Breaks

If your final/midterm season is filled with anxiety, an overload of homework, studying and stressful nights in the library a brain break is exactly what can ease your mind during this time. Some of my favourite ways to spend a study break are going on a walk, making some food, spending some time talking with someone, and sitting down and watching a movie. No matter who you are there are movie genres for all different types of people in the world, ranging from gooey romantic to Vin Diesel action adventures I guarantee there is a movie out there worth watching and taking a break for.

Movies can be a fun and relaxing way to spend some free time. Unlike t.v shows, movies don’t want to keep you waiting till next week on a cliffhanger leaving your brain without worry and anxious waiting for the next part of your new favourite show.

Brain breaks, in general, are a great re-set for studying, with burnout being so common among students it’s important we take some responsibility for our mental health and take a step away from studying for a brief intermission, during exam season consider de-stressing by watching some not-so-stressful movies. I’ve put together some movie ideas for you to look into.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

One of my all-time favourite movies is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, beside the nostalgia that this movie brings you can see how much we all want a glorified day off and skipping that lecture that drains you is something we can all relate to, during finals and the mid-term season are not as realistic but we can take a break, and live that through the movie for now.

Mean Girls

Mean girls is a classic movie and guaranteed to take your mind off schoolwork for a bit. With its funny and witty behaviour, you can now laugh that you’re not in high school anymore, maybe making those exams worth it.

Spider Man-Into The Spider-Verse

A great animation made in 2018, this is a great choice for some relaxed content, as someone whos not that into marvel movies I really enjoyed this version of Spider-Man, it showed inclusivity and I found it more relatable than most of the Marvel movies.

High-School Musical

Whether you want to admit it or not high school musical is a classic and a great movie, you can sing along while rooting for Gabriella and Troy from the comfort of your couch. I would recommend High School Musical to anyone because everyone ends up liking the movie even if they thought they wouldn’t.

Grown Ups

The first and second grown-ups are great movies, family-friendly classics which are hilarious, rated at 4.4 out of 5 stars on Netflix you will love this movie if you haven’t watched it already.

Black Mirror

Black Mirror seems like a show with its episodes but it’s not, each episode has a completely different storyline from the last and has no relevance besides some little easter eggs. Definitely, a good watch which can be perceived in a great way that will usually leave you gobsmacked at the end of each episode so be ready to be shocked. Black Mirror is also a great option if you have a shorter attention span because each episode ranges from 41 to 90 minutes.

There are endless amounts of movies and t.v shows on Netflix, HBO and Crave to be watched, If you’re looking for a deal Amazon prime offers 6 months free for students and holds tons of movies to be explored. It really doesn’t matter what type of movie you decide to watch during your study break, what matters is how you’re resting your brain.

Taking a break is crucial for your success and more importantly your mental health. The impact of taking breaks is greater than a 2-hour non-stop study session. Skip the bottomless cups of coffee, pulling those all-nighters, and give your nerves a break by sitting down and watching a movie. A way of escapism can be through watching movies, sitting down and totally relaxing into a movie sounds like a great way to spend a quality study break session.
